1 Corinthians 13:4 New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind l. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Jesus had it all. He lived in the most beautiful place, he had all power, he gave life, worshiped by all, knew all things, created all things. There was nothing that was withheld from him.

Jesus had the right to boast about himself, yet it is hard to find a place that he talked about himself and his power. When he did tall about himself it is with a point to be made. At age twelve he said he was about his father’s business. To the disciples – the father and I are one, and I am going to prepare a place for you. To Roman rulers – my kingdom is not of this world. To the people and Jewish leaders – he used signs and miracles.

Yes, Jesus had much to boast about but Philippians 2: 6, tells us that he did not consider being equal to God something to use for his own advantage. If he had boasted about his equality with God, how would we ever live up to those standards?

Jesus is, and shows us the highest form of love by not boasting. It is by his action that we get a glimpse of how much he loves us. He went throughout the country side teaching the word of God with authority. He proved who he was by the signs and miracles he preformed. Then in John 14:12 he said that we would also be able to do the same things he did because he was going back to the father.

Jesus did not boast of himself but he did boast about his father. In Jeremiah 9: 23 and 24, God tells us not to boast in our wisdom, strength, or wealth. If we are to boast this is what God wants us to boast about: that we understand God, and that he shows us his faithful love, justice and righteousness, and these are the things he delights in.

These are the things that Jesus boasted in. As we imitate Christ let us boast not in what we have or can do but in what God can do and who God is.

What has he done for you this year? Has God given you encouragement when life was difficult? Was God there for you when you lost a loved one? Did God direct you to a person that could help you overcome a difficult situation?

What ever we have been through there is someone who needs to hear our story. We can write about our experiences and how God has brought us through them. Maybe there is a social event where someone is going through what you have been through. Testimony time at church has been a encouragement for many. There are many who suffer in silence because they don’t think anyone cares or they will be thought less of. Our story can help them to know they are not alone. So boast often of what God is doing in your life.

God bless you as you imitate Christ.
